Ripley is coming to live with us very soon, at the grand old age of 8 weeks
Our ESS, Kai, is on a BARF diet, and is VERY happy and healthy with it, so we would like Ripley to have the same benefits of such a diet.
At what age can you start feeding a kitten raw food and bones, etc?
We always have a supply of DAF mince, raw green tripe, freshly frozen sardines, frozen chicken wings & carcasses, lamb ribs, marrow bones, eggs, liver & heart (whatever is cheap at the time), veg "mush" (think that about covers it)
Also any thoughts on a "starter diet"? I wonder if the List below would each kind of make a meal and adjust from there? Would she need liver & veg every day?
Fresh-Frozen-Thawed Sardine
Large Chicken Wing
1/4 pack Daf mince
1/4 lb tripe
Chicken Carcass
Egg, Heart & Small Piece of Liver
Thanks in advance,
Chris |

Another quick question -
How much should we feed Ripley? I'm guessing for a period of time it will need to be more than the 2-3% of body weight as she will be growing and developing. Any pointers on this, and how long for would also be much appreciated
With great help from this forum, Kai our ESS is very happy and healthy on his BARF diet, and I hope we can bring this little kitty along the same way.
OH was worried that we'd have to feed processed 'kitten' food for a while, so she doesn't have a calcium deficiancy Please confirm that I am indeed correct in the fact that if she will eat the bones (ground or otherwise until her teeth are strong) that she will get more than enough calcium from them.
Are there any other special considerations for growth/development of kittens?
Plenty of info on t'interweb for dogs and BARF, but alas, not that much (that I can find) about our feline friends.
Thanks again,
Chris
ps - it might now be Ripley and Bisqwit coming to stay |
